Hot chocolate with a blue ribbon

I went for midday drinks with a lovely colleague and friend today. This isn't unusual, but we generally end up at a nearby chain like Costa Coffee or Starbucks because they're closest to the office. Today, though, was a pleasant surprise.

"I know another place," she said, steering me towards the back door.

And a few minutes later, I entered a Le Cordon Bleu for the first time in my entire life.

Ahhhhh, Le Cordon Bleu. The Blue Ribbon that symbolizes everything about gastronomy and culinary arts and excellent cooking and Julia Child! The place where you can be taught to truss a chicken, pan roast a chanterelle, or glaze a langoustine!

Or, apparently, simply enjoy a hot beverage.

Surrounded by master chef apprentices, we tucked into our prestigiously-decorated drinks of choice. My hot chocolate was flowery, and her cappuccino bore a smiling cat (a catuccino?). It was a small moment of fanciness in an otherwise typical workday.

And much like the cat, I was smiling too.
