Paris and a cancelled meeting

I simply can't explain what a lovely day it was in Paris today. Not a cloud to be seen, warm, sunny, the scent of crêpes in the air...

"And what a shame!" I thought to myself. "I'm going to be cooped up inside at various client meetings all day!"

Or was I? Because I had my first meeting of the day, yes. And I had my last meeting of the day, yes. But that middle meeting that was anchoring the whole central part of the day? The client cancelled, leaving me with a fabulous three-hour window smack in the middle of the day. And oh, how I enjoyed it!

I had a lovely salmon tartare (and an Orangina!) on a café terrace. I walked my little legs off along the Seine river, past the Arc de Triomphe, in front of the Louvre museum, and even up the steep butte de Montmartre. I bought a bottle of pink champagne for a future special occasion.

Contrast that with the average workday of sitting in a dreary cubicle, and I was one happy little walker! Maybe I just shouldn't show up back at the office tomorrow morning. Maybe I should tell the driver to turn the Eurostar around as it continues to gently rock its way back towards London.

"Go back!" I'd say. "It's sunny in Paris! They have crêpes there! I'll buy you one!"

But I doubt they'd listen. So I think, London it is for tonight, and Paris will have to wait for next time.

Hmmm. Maybe I should open the champagne.
